Early Evening Jazz: Michael O’Brien Trio

Bassist Michael O’Brien will perform two sets of dinner jazz with his trio while back in town from NYC.

Michael O’Brien has been performing and composing internationally for more than a decade with such notables as Harry Connick Jr., Ruben Blades, Toninho Horta, Gil Goldstein, the Merce Cunningham Dance Co., Gene Pitney, Christine Ebersole, Dave Samuels, Pablo Ziegler, Veronica Swift, Dave King, Matt Wilson, Victor Lewis, Portinho, Sachal Vasandani, Ted Nash, Lage Lund, David Binney, Ari Hoenig, the Jazz Mandolin Project, and Marc Giuliana. He studied bass under Anthony Cox and studied West African and Haitian percussion under Marc Anderson.
O’Brien has performed at festivals in Russia, Belarus, Indonesia, Haiti, Peru, Mexico, Norway, Ukraine, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Angola, and Japan. His string quartet work “Pine” was performed at the Kennedy Center by the acclaimed string quartet Ethel. O’Brien has taught clinics and performed masterclasses throughout the United States, Central and South America, Africa, Europe, and Japan. Since 2022, he has been performing, teaching masterclasses, and holding clinics in Mauritania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Angola via the State Department’s African Regional Services. O’Brien holds a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from the University of Minnesota.
